led by PCC Secretary and experienced teacher Philip Bishop. July 2011. The following day, more came to follow the theme "The church in the community".

There are several people in this picture who regular worship at St Mark's in 2011! We think the picture was taken in the
late 1960s. We are grateful to Graham leaver for sending in this photograph.

Hannah and Jodie did a splendid job with the washing up!
It is sad for us that after being a Young Lions since he was a toddler, and in recent times providing valuable help, Tim
Gallagher is moving to Nottingham. We wish him well in his new environment. We'll miss you, Tim!

Delicious food at the Christian Aid quiz and meal. Over £140 was raised. A good time was had by all!
Kenneth Roughton: 25 March 1925 - 1 February 2011
Ken Roughton, who first set foot in St Mark's in 1933 as a mischievous choir boy, died peacefully on 1 February. The
picture shows Ken and Brenda celebrating 60 years of happy marriage in 2009. A full church on Friday 11 February commemorated a life of Christian
service including St Mark's sacristan, churchwarden, server, chalice bearer and taking the consecrated sacrament to the sick and infirm.
We shall miss Ken. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Brenda and son John.

Midnight Mass
ABOVE: the congregation arrives. Anyone looking up would be puzzled by balloons on the Church ceiling. These are
to celebrate Jesus birthday, let go by the children at the Crib service earlier in the day. BELOW: Priest in training Margaret Gallagher
had a busy day! No only did she lead the Crib Service, she preached at Midnight Mass. The celebrant was the Venerable Nigel
Peyton, Archdeacon of Newark. Their efforts as well as those of the choir and serving team ensured this was an inspiring service.
The Archdeacon blessed the Crib at the beginning of the service. The form of service was devised by churchwarden Michael Longdon.
Stags Carol Service
Following a change of date, the Stags Christmas Carol Service finally took place with hearty singing from
many supporters. The service was conducted by Mrs Pam Radford with the prayers led by Stags chaplain Rev Tim Mitchell.
The address was given by the Right Reverend Anthony Porter, Bishop of Sherwood, here surrounded by players and members of
Stags' management. Mulled wine was enjoyed by all after the service.
A prayer used at the service:
We give thanks, Lord, for Mansfield Town Football Club.
We pray our Club will be a place where all are valued and the dignity of every person
with whom we engage upheld.
Help us aim to be the best we possibly can, allowing competition to make us strong but not hostile, committed but not obsessed.
Give us the grace to compete with honour and a spirit of good will, both for ourselves, and for those we face in the game.
In victory, help us celebrate; in defeat, keep us from despair.
And throughout each season let our great Club set a shining example for others to follow.
Amen.

Christingle Sunday (5 December)
The snow in the car park was 2 feet deep so could not be used. Despite the conditions, a good number plodded through the snow for the
Christingle service, led by Revd Angie Smythe with contributions from St Mark's young people. Note the circle of light above. Between Morning mass
and Christingle our young people had been very busy what with 10 pin bowling, eating lunch (prepared by a team led by Pam Bishop, below) and
rehearsing for the Christingle service.
